Unusual houses

Carved in powerful limestone cliffs and arranged on two floors, the caves of Matata or Regulus form a network of cells to which one reaches by corridors and stairs.

These caves dug by the sea on the side of the cliffs 65 million years ago have always been inhabited by men.

They offer a remarkable view of the largest wild estuary in Europe, the Gironde estuary, from the Cordouan lighthouse to the Médoc coast.
